As part of its efforts to promote safe migration and prevent human trafficking, the Ashshash Project successfully completed four community-based puppet shows across Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazilas. The initiative was implemented by PROTTYASHI, with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and in partnership with Winrock International Bangladesh. Through an engaging and accessible form of community theatre, the puppet shows created opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds to learn about the risks associated with unsafe migration and human trafficking.

Four Shows Across Project Working AreasThe four puppet shows were organised at the following locations:
  • Baitussaraf Jabbaria Academy School and College, Cox’s Bazar Sadar
  • Talipara Government Primary School, Ratna Palang Union, Ukhiya Upazila
  • Faliyapara Government Primary School, Rajapalang Union, Ukhiya Upazila
  • Hariyakhali Primary School, Sabrang Union, Teknaf Upazila
Among the four sessions, one was conducted at a school, while the other three were organised in community courtyards, allowing the project to engage directly with people in their own communities.
Reaching Thousands Through Community EngagementThe shows attracted significant interest from community members. An estimated 5,000 people participated in and watched the performances, including men, women, children, elderly people and students.Using storytelling and puppetry, the sessions presented important messages in an engaging and easily understandable way. The performances focused on raising awareness about human trafficking prevention and safe migration practices, particularly among communities where people may consider migrating abroad for employment.
Encouraging Informed Migration DecisionsA key message of the puppet shows was the importance of being well informed before travelling abroad for work. Community members were encouraged to verify travel documents, job offers and other relevant information before making migration decisions.By promoting access to accurate information and encouraging people to verify information before migration, the sessions aimed to help community members make informed, safer and more responsible decisions.
The successful completion of all four planned puppet shows marks another step in the Ashshash Project’s continued efforts to strengthen community awareness and promote safer migration practices across its working areas in Cox’s Bazar.
